Haley has started communicating! She gently nods or shakes her head when asked questions. When she is tired, she will stick her tongue out to indicate a yes. IT has been a long time since she used her neck muscles, and she tires fairly easily (but what a blessing to see her respond!). She is moving her arms, legs, fingers, shoulders, etc. In the next week and a half, she will undergo reconstructive surgery at the sight of her initial injury. They have decided to have a titanium plate inserted rather than do a bone grafting. The plate will be stronger - and does not require an additional surgical site. Please pray that the surgery goes smoothly and that Haley recovers quickly from it. Also, keep praying for her as she works to strengthen her muscles and works to communicate more!

Haley continues to recover at Arnold Palmer hospital. She has had a shunt in place for 3 weeks now. Her breathing has returned to normal and she has gained 5 lbs. Laura takes her on trips around the hospital via wheelchair as much as possible. The doctors believe that Haley’s brain is in the process of re-training itself from her injury and adjusting to the shunt. This could take several more weeks. Due to earlier complications (and unsuccessful previous shunts) the Lynn’s intend to remain at Arnold Palmer until noticeable improvement is made before moving on to rehabilitation. They moved to a new room last week on the 3rd floor so if you go to visit, note the new room number when you check in.

Haley continues to recover at Arnold Palmer. She underwent surgery on Dec. 24th to remove a shunt – this was in response to the infection she had been fighting. Haley encountered breathing complications as a result of the surgery and the antibiotics she required increased her blood pressure and heart rate. Once the antibiotics were no longer needed to fight the infection, her heart rate and blood pressure returned to normal. Around Jan 11th, Haley began to finally have some relief with her breathing. She is still receiving oxygen nightly via a mask. She is scheduled for additional surgery this week. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors, staff and Lynn’s as they work together to heal Haley. Pray for the staff at Brooks rehabilitation that will take over Haley’s care once she is released to their facility. Pray for strength for Haley and her family as they continue on this journey

Haley continues to have trouble with the Hydrocephalus. Saturday she went in for another surgery and they externalized the drainage again. She has an infection in her spinal fluid that they are aggressively treating with antibiotics. They have her on additional fluids to treat dehydration from vomiting that the pressure and meds seem to cause. Haley is an amazing little girl, and continues to battle through what comes her way. They are regularly including physical therapy in her treatment to help her regain her strength. Pray for her healing, wisdom for the staff treating her, and for the strength and endurance of her family and friends. Celebrate the miracles of healing God has performed as a result of your collective prayers for Haley, and remain faithful in your prayers as her journey continues.

Adjustments are still being made for Haley’s shunt to work properly. The doctors are confident that they have the right shunt inserted. The adjustments they continue to make are a part of the recovery process. Jeff will be traveling back and forth quite a bit as he needs to tend to some work related issues back home. Getting to rehabilitation is still the goal – so please pray for a swift recovery so that moving on to Brooks becomes a reality for them.

Haley received a new shunt on Monday (12/3). So far this one is working. It is equipped with a “pressure valve” and every day they are making adjustments as they search for the right setting for Haley. The right setting will allow Haley additional relief. The high pressure from Hydrocephalus causes discomfort that tends to lead to vomiting. She is also having some trouble with her stomach from her feedings. They are working to provide her with the proper nutrition that does not upset her stomach. Regaining her strength is important for her continued healing.
They hope to leave for Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville (www.brooksrehab.org) early next week. This could be delayed depending upon the success of her new shunt and resolving her dietary problems. They are eager to move towards the next step of Haley’s recovery. Please continue to pray for Haley’s healing; wisdom for the doctors and nurses handling her care; and for Laura, Jeff, and Landon’s strength and health as they continue on this journey with her.

Haley has had her shunt completely removed. She has also been battling an infection at the original wound site. Currently, they are treating her with antibiotics and using a direct tube to drain the excess fluid caused by Hydrocephalus. Haley had 3 operations over 9 days due to complications with the shunt. They are now giving her time to rest and recover.
Haley has been moved from the ICU to a regular hospital room. For those of you who were waiting for a more appropriate time to visit - now is a good time. Once they are able to successfully shunt Haley, and clear the infection, she will likely head to Jacksonville for rehabilitation. For those of you who wondered "what can I do?", if you do go to visit the Lynn's, a nice home cooked meal or dessert would be welcome. They have been at Haley's side for over 40 days - that's 40 days of cafeteria breakfast, lunch, and dinner - when they take time out to eat. Some have already taken a dinner or two and we do know they appreciate it. They have access to a refridgerator (shared) and microwave. Storage is tight, but leftovers can be accomodated and enjoyed.

Haley’s shunt is not working properly. Spinal fluid is building up pressure around the brain, so surgery is planned for today and Haley will remain at Arnold Palmer one more week before going to Jacksonville for rehab.

Yestarday evening was tough for the Lynn's. Haley was taken off the coma meds in order to check for brain activity. They determined there was none and planned to check for blood circulation to the brain in the morning. We had another 12 hours to pray for a miracle and pray we did. This morning the doctor decided to check for brain activity before doing the circulation test. It came down to the 11th hr. and God revealed his power to us. Haley had good brain activity and our miracle was delivered. Praise the Lord. We thank everyone for their prayers and ask for continued prayer. There is still a long road ahead!.

On October 20, 2007 Haley sustained a critical head injury while riding her 4-wheeler. She was airlifted to Arnold Palmer where she remains in a chemically induced coma. The evening of the 22nd, her doctors began to bring her medication down in order to slowly bring her brain out of the coma. The next several days will be critical as Haley is brought back to us. We will continue to update her condition everyday in order to keep everyone up to speed.
The hospital has asked us to please ask everyone to wait for updates from us rather than fill the waiting area and have the Lynn’s leave Haley’s side. The Lynn Family would rather you take time at home to pray for Haley instead of sitting in the waiting room. We greatly appreciate your help in this area. Our website will have a Haley update page as well as fund raising info. Please use this site, www.acemotoxpark.com, to get updates as well as the track message. We will have a moment of prayer every time the track is open so please come and pray with us.
